Phase two – Development and testing
– Visual Research of contemporary fashion in African culture

I have been looking through different magazines, books, blogs and articles regarding traditional and modern african fashion culture. Seeing the development of style is really interesting and their use of color imposes a real prescence in the imagery.

Phase two – Development and testing
– Research of contemporary fashion in Islamic culture

I have been looking through different books, blogs and website to understand both modern and traditional fashion from Islamic culture. Looking through these sources is really helpful when looking for the developments of fashion. The bright colors particularly inspire me to begin creating my own work in response to these stark color combinations.

Phase two – Development and testing
– Research of contemporary fashion in Japan

Since beginning phase two i have spent a few days thoroughly researching fashion from different cultures and all aspects of it. Such as fashion in todays society, traditional fashion, fashion magazines, fashion designs and fashion illustrators. My research will help me produce pieces in response to the colors, shapes and styles I’ve found in my research.

Phase two – Development and testing of ideas

Since completing phase one of the module I have decided to use phase two to continue looking deeper in to fashion from different cultures and celebrating it. I will research in depth fashion from different cultures, different styles of fashion art, different inspirations for each culture and artists from different cultures who work with the theme of fashion. I will look at who is commissioning fashion collage, where it could be used and who else in contemporary illustration is doing similar things. From this research I will begin producing my own pieces in response to the competition and use my work to celebrate individuality and multiculturalism in London.

My research will prove beneficial when I start to produce my work as I will incoporate all my research in to my work and make sure my concept is clear.

Phase one – Researching ideas and visual experimentation

Royal Academy of Arts – Abstract Expressionism

I visited the Abstract Expressionism exhibition at the Royal Academy earlier this week. It was a really great exhibition. I felt like the work linked partly well to my collages and my use of expressive mark making can be seen as influenced by the likes of Franz Kline, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko etc. The exhibition has inspired me to be more innovative with my ideas.

Phase one – Researching ideas and visual experimentation

I have been researching how and where my work can be used and using photoshop to contextualist it. Placing my work in context is really helpful as it gives the work a purpose and lets me visualize how i can target different companies through my work. It also helps to see if my work conveys the message i want.
