Phase 3: Finalizing work, contextualization and presentation.

Presentation of work –

At the point of time i have completed my final pieces for the upcoming exhibition. I am now starting to look at presentation of my work and seeing how other street artists and collage artists present their work. I aim to show my work in a professional manner which conveys my project in a high standard.

Phase 3: Finalizing work, contextualization and presentation.

These are the 5 graffiti collages I have produced by hand on MDF. I am really pleased with how they turned out. I feel that making the pieces more busier and expressive with the tags worked really well. The layers of paint, collage and graffiti can act as a visual metaphor for the many different cultures we have in society today. After producing both digitally produced collages and hand made collages I have decided to use the hand made collages for the exhibition. I feel these pieces express the celebration of different cultures through fashion really well with a unique and personal twish to them. I am also very glad i worked on MDF as the spray paint and collaging of the photos went on to the surface very smoothly, this was a little bit of a concern for me before i started the pieces. I originally intended to only exhibit three, however after looking back on them i feel exhibition all five will look really powerful and imposing. I believe it’ll convey my project concept really well.

Phase 3: Finalizing work, contextualization and presentation.

These are the first two graffiti collages produced by hand. My initial thought on these pieces is they’re not expressive enough like my usual work. Both my graffiti work and my collage work are very loose, however with these pieces I feel they’re very restricted in terms of composition and there isn’t any flow to them. When producing the pieces i over thought a lot of what i was doing and began doubting my work. However, after taking a step back and reflecting back on it i feel i can work back in to it. My next step i aim to work back in to them to try and achieve a higher quality result, one that represents my style and my project.

Phase 3: Finalizing work, contextualization and presentation.

I have been in the 3D worksop making wooden canvases and frames so I can produce my graffiti collages by hand. I believe creating them by hand will give a unique approach to the work and will differ distinctively from the digitally produced collage. Firstly i got MDF boards which were then cut in to 5 A1 pieces, i then used bits of timber to assemble a frame on the back. The reason i made this frame on the back of all the pieces is to give it more stability and to also make it easier when hanging in the gallery. I also believe collaging and spray painting on to MDF will give it a good texture and quality.
